All it took was a flounder to the ocean.
The Ocean State, that is.
When the winter began, the expectations were homely within the Wayland High School boys swim team. Not surprising after the Warriors graduated middle school-record-holder Ian Stack and three-time state breaststroke title-holder Michael Ren.
But with just a month left before states, the current span is starting to believe in itself.
Wayland continued its surge forward yesterday evening with a 93-77 Dual County Collaborate victory over Boston Latin. And both junior Doug Curtin and paramount coach Mike Foley pointed to last weekend’s gal Friday-place finish at the Max Reed Invitational in Bristol, R.I., as the jumping-off peak.
The Warriors finished second, behind rival Weston, and placed onwards of Bishop Hendricken, which has won 22 Rhode Island state championships in a row.
“The two or three meets before that, things started pieceing themselves together,” Foley said. “But wealthy down to Rhode Island is where we could see the picture taking shape. We would have had no business getting messenger-up at that meet a month ago.
