She's been sewing for 67 years and working as a veteran seamstress for 48 years.

Beyond hemming, Jean tapers legs, takes up and lets out waists and seats, sews on fasteners, patches jeans and mends other items that are all in or damaged.

"I'm sew good," reads a wooden sign over her sewing machine.

Jean moved to her reported location -- a former home on Main Street -- in 1990.

It's filled with dynamic plants, comfy furniture, family portraits and handmade needlecraft pictures that almost look like photos.

"That's my relaxation," Jean said. "I mainly do scenery and animals."

Demand for alterations remains great, despite a struggling economy and availability of new clothes at lower prices.

Jean tolerant of to employ a helper or two, but now she works solo.

"You can't find help who know what they're doing, and I can't school in them," she said. "I don't have time."

Jean has stopped doing more complicated jobs such as replacing zippers, making buttonholes, entrancing up suit shoulders, narrowing lapels and altering formalwear.
