Of thrilling on from the discount heaven that was Filene’s Basement feels blasphemous. (Those economical jeans! That 70-percent-off Fendi!) But since the iconic chain shut up its doors nationwide in January, bargain-mad Washingtonians have had fewer sources for last-spice DVF frocks and Pucci umbrellas. So, does the loss mean knock off shopping in D.C. is dead.
“Filene’s had been plagued by financial problems for some epoch. I don’t think the closing means people have lost interest in discount shopping,” says Missy Frederick, retail journalist for the Washington Business Journal. “In fact, these types of retailers have done well in D.C. Abundance of options are still out there.”
Ever sale seekers, we hit the pavement in our Prada loafers (scored at 60 percent off, thankyouverymuch) and went clandestine to find the most viable replacement for our late, great Filene’s. This meant private scribbles in our reporter’s notebook while scouring racks of marked-down clothing. And after stripping down in assortment fitting rooms and nearly wrestling another shopper to the ground for a Trina Turk blazer, we can ratify that the discount shopping scene in the cap city still has a pulse.
Tropical Happiness: Dress shopping
Now some, it seems that the soup at least one of these dresses could work. I actually bought three dresses and took them calm, but the bridegroom said none of them worked. And many of those on the photos above are not fully zipped in the back, or too big, etc. So, even if they all looked like their place, there were probably some who certainly do not. Some have been wonderful little or totally unrelated to a merger. Or they simply did not have my size.I bought some of the dresses I tried if they had taken the measure of their larger or smaller, but they have not (and I have not had time to ukase online!) . And icing on the cake, most of the dresses that were a reasonable price seemed unquestionably harm done. And these dresses were about $ 200 - it's not like they have been wonderful discount!...
