When I visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art earlier this year, I went a bit disoriented and fervor shot dead by their early Oceanic art (See my review of this betrayal). With hindsight, I know if my gain some assessment of lots contentious stem partly from the event I was most interested in seeing Polynesian art (and on the other hand, the art of Micronesia) today then. The store's prodigious (albeit enjoyable) Art, a secondary part of the key New Guinea (Melanesian art) was just not what I wanted to see. I guesstimate my own idiosyncratic interests made my decision completely compromised... (But part of my bias was also to promote the art of Oceania in the square with the status of European art and European-American because I support the imbalance between light contemporary folk art and art non-ghost in the museum fee is one of the most pernicious of all the traditions of the museum)....
