Here is our roll of our favorite live shows, albums and songs from 2011.

ALBUMS 1. Wilco, "The Whole Regard." Frontman Jeff Tweedy's written a masterpiece of pop and circumstance. It's vibrant and untested, married to nothing but committed to honest musical expression. It is Wilco's full discography, reborn.

2. Foo Fighters, "Wasting Match." This is what rock 'n' roll sounds like. Rich, rambunctious and clamorous. Period.

3. St. Vincent, "Strange Mercy." Fearless and delicate all at once, this Tulsa-born musician mixes guitar juncture with gnarly synth beats and intelligent and cinematic lyrics. Annie Clark's third album packs sumptuousness and emotional heft.

4. Beastie Boys, "Hot Sauce Committee Part Two." These rappers' quirky lyrical references are sometimes older than many of their fans - or their parents, for that stuff ("The pump don't work 'cause the vandals took the handles" is a direct rip from Bob Dylan).
